Introduction

Welcome to the web page for the QualiPSo Meeting at URJC (Fuenlabrada).

Fuenla Campus

On this page, you can find useful information about the meeting venue, accomodation, travel arrangements and so forth.

Accomodation

There are two main options for accomodation:

  • Staying at Fuenlabrada: The southern city of the so-called "Madrid Big South". Very few options for alternative activities, you will depend on public transportation scheduling to get back from downtown (though, last train from Atocha to Fuenlabrada departs at 00.12). On the other side, you will be closer to the meeting venue (5-10 mins). Hotels are cheaper here, as well, but they have fewer available rooms.
    • NH Fuenlabrada (4*): Just 3 mins walking away from Fuenlabrada Central and Parque Europa Metro-Sur station, as well as from Fuenlabrada Cercanías suburban train station. Aprox. 58€/night.
    • Sercotel Gema Fuenlabrada (4*): Very close to Parque de los Estados Metro-Sur station. Aprox. 53€/night.

  • Staying at downtown Madrid: You will have the advantage of staying in the capital, with plenty of options for alternative activities. You will be closer to the social event (to be announced soon). On the contrary, hotels are a bit more expensive and you will be a little bit further (30-40 mins) from the meeting venue. Since you will have to take the suburban train at Atocha station, all the hotels below are just a few minutes away from it.
Qualipso Hoteles Atocha
    • Hotel Husa Paseo del Arte (4*): One of the best options around the Atocha station. 95€/night (aprox.).
    • Hotel Agumar (4*): Another good option near Atocha station. 80€/night (aprox.).
    • Hotel NH Sur (3*): Cheaper, but good option in front of the train station. Aprox. 40€/night.

Meeting venue

The meeting will take place in our newest campus at Fuenlabrada, in the south of Madrid (map of URJC campus at Fuenlabrada).

Transportation

It is strongly recommended to use public transportation in Madrid, specially during the meeting days, since many people will start their Summer vacations on June 30 and July 1, and you may bump into horrible, endless traffic jams in the main highways of the capital. First of all, get the Madrid's Metro Map (subway). This is an schematic map of the huge Metro network in Madrid.

If you stay at one of the recommended hotels in downtown, all of them are very close to Atocha train station. You will also need the Renfe Cercanías Map. This is the suburban train network of Madrid.

From/To Barajas airport

From Barajas, the best option is always to take the Metro (subway). No matter if you arrive at Barajas T4, or Barajas T1-T2-T3, follow the indications to take the Metro. You have to buy a special ticket, including the supplementary fare for the Airport.

Just take the line 8 (pink) to the city center (~15-20 mins), until you arrive at the final destination, Nuevos Ministerios.

To get to the airport, just go to Nuevos Ministerios on line 10 (dark blue, recommended) or line 6 (grey), and then take line 8 (pink) back to Barajas T1-T2-T3 or Barajas T4. You can add the airport supplementary fare when you arrive there, if you forgot to do it before.

How to get to the meeting venue

Depending on your hotel location, the best/fastest way to get to the meeting venue is:
  • From Fuenlabrada: By Metro-Sur (Madrid's South Subway Ring), which is Line 12 (olive green) in the Metro Map (Avg. time 5-10 mins).
    • Route: Get to the closest Metro-Sur station to your hotel (either Fuenlabrada Central or Parque de los Estados). The URJC Campus is at Hospital de Fuenlabrada station (2-stops from Fuenlabrada Central, 1-stop from Parque de los Estados). The best option is to buy a 10-trips ticket (around 7€).
  • From downtown Madrid: By Renfe Cercanías (Madrid's Suburban train), then connecting to Metro-Sur, which is Line 12 (olive green) in the Metro Map (Avg. time 30-40 mins).
    • Route: Get to the Atocha south train station. You should enter through the Coliseum Door to access directly to Renfe Cercanías. Get your ticket in the automatic machines, selecting Fuenlabrada as the final destination (each round trip ~4,90€). Once you traverse the automated doors, look for the C-5 line (yellow), direction Humanes-Fuenlabrada, to take the correct stairs to the platform. Always check in the led screens of the platform that the next train  goes to your desired destination. Sometimes, medium or large distance trains also use the same platforms of Renfe Cercanías. The suburban trains are always red/white, and the final destination is on the side doors screens.
    • Once you arrive at Renfe Cercanías Fuenlabrada station, traverse the automatic doors and follow the indications to Metro (line 12, olive green) to get to Metro-Sur. The URJC Campus is at Hospital de Fuenlabrada station (2-stops from Fuenlabrada Central). The best option is to buy a 10-trips ticket (around 7€).

Other useful tips:

  • You may consider to get a Tourist travel pass to switch from-to any of the public transportations in Madrid region (instead of buying different tickets for Metro, Renfe Cercanías, etc).
  • Metro-Sur tickets are NOT VALID for the rest of the Metro network (remaining lines 1-11). Look at the comments and info about fares and how to get around Metro and Renfe Cercanías using the above links.
  • Remember that, in Madrid, you will have to use your ticket to pass the automatic barriers and enter/exit the stations.
