Libresoft publishes Wikipedia research dumps
Libresoft is proud to announce that our Wikipedia research dumps are publicly available for downloading.
Since just a few hours ago, Wikipedia research dumps have been published on a repository hosted by RedIRIS. These dumps will save time and effort to all Wikipedia researchers worldwide, eliminating the previous need to parse the huge XML dumps, published by Wikimedia Foundation on its download center, to extract all activity metadata corresponding to a certain language version.
The new repositories can be accessed either by HTTP or FTP.
Wikipedia research dumps have been created using WikiXRay, our tool to automate the analysis of any language version of Wikipedia. These are compressed mysqldump files, that can be easily loaded again on any local database for research purposes.
The first research dumps only include some of the biggest versions of Wikipedia. In the following days, the complete set of dumps for all available versions in Wikipedia will be published. The dumps will be updated on a regular based, depending on the availability of the original XML dumps provided by Wikimedia Foundation.

Open Source Software for the Development of the Spanish Public Administration: A Global View
The first report published by Cenatic (National Center of Reference for Application of Information and Communication Technologies based on Open Source Software), entitled Open Source Software for the Development of the Spanish Public Administration: A Global View
was presented on Sept. 24, 2008 at Secretary of State for Telecommunications and for Information Society (Madrid).
Currently, only a Spanish version is available, though it is expected that Cenatic will publish an English translation in the next future. This report has been written and coordinated by GSyC/Libresoft, with collaboration from Telefónica I+D.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive study presenting an in-depth analysis of adoption of FLOSS applications in Spanish Public Administrations. It comprises case studies, SWOT analysis and recommendations retrieved from a board of experts who where directly involved in the management and development of every initiative. Conclusions and recommendations included in this document are of great value for other Public Administrations and Entities abroad, willing to promote similar initiatives on the adoption of FLOSS.

Best Student Paper Award (ICSOFT-2007)
The Libresoft Team has won the Best Student Paper Award in the 2nd edition of the International Conference on Software and Data Technologies (ICSOFT-2007), celebrated on 22-25 july 2007, at Barcelona. Our research contribution presents initial results about the quantitative analysis of the comunity of users in the Wikipedia project. We present several graphs and results comprising the top ten language editions of Wikipedia, regarding their number of articles. To generate these results we employ our own software tool, WikiXRay . The winner contribution may be found here. Additional contributions related to this line of research may be found on the Publications section of the Libresoft website.
